Prelacy’s Annual Seminar for Deacons Draws 110 Participants

 

The Armenian Prelacy of Canada’s second annual seminar for church choirs and Deacons was held at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church in Toronto on the weekend of March 24, 2007.

 

On behalf His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate, Very Rev. Fr. Meghrig Parikian, Toronto’s Pastor, opened the seminar with a prayer and delivered His Eminence’s welcome message.

 

The seminar’s first lecture on Armenian Church Holidays and Traditions was given by Viken Khanamirian, who was followed by Rev. Fr. Vasgen Bekarian.  Laval’s Pastor Archpriest Hrair Nicolian succeeded this session with his detailed explanation on the significance of the “Vor Ezkhorhourt” hymn (sharagan).

The topic of Church Choirs and Youth was presented by Sourp Kevork’s Arch Deacon Vahe Pouchikian, as well as by conductors Hasmig Kavasian of the Sourp Hagop church choir and Melkon Kargotsian, chairperson of St. Mary’s chuch senior choir.

In turn, they each presented their perspectives and thoughts on how to encourage more members of the Armenian youth to take part in church related activities.

 

Seminar attendants included Acolytes, Sub Deacons and Deacons from the Armenian Apostolic Churches of Sourp Hagop in Montreal, Sourp Kevork in Laval, St. Mary in Toronto, Sourp Nishan in Cambridge and St. Paul in St. Catharines.

 

The guest church choir members also partook in Sunday Mass at St. Mary’s Armenian Apostolic Church on March 25, 2007.
