His Eminence Joins Community in Genocide Commemoration Events

His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian
Prelacy of Canada, joined the Armenian community of Quebec and Canada
for commemorations in honour of the 92nd anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide.
Following the inter-denominational memorial ceremony at Sourp Hagop
Armenian Cathedral, His Eminence walked with more than 200 youth members
to the Genocide memorial at park Marcelin-Wilson for a vigil and prayers
in honour of all
victims of genocides. This special vigil and march, was organized by the
Montreal and Laval chapters of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation
Youth Organization of Canada, was held on the night of April 23, 2007.
On Genocide Remembrance Day, Prelate Hagopian first visited the
Embassy
of the Republic of Armenia in Ottawa, for a special Genocide
memorial ceremony organized
by the
Armenian Embassy at the “Armenia Immortal” monument.
A requiem service was also held on Parliament Hill at the Centennial
Flame, where His Eminence and Religious Leaders,
Genocide
survivors and Canadian political party leaders laid wreaths around the
Flame in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
Archbishop Hagopian then proceeded to the Turkish Embassy with the
community for the annual demonstration calling on the recognition of the
Armenian Genocide by the current Turkish government. His Eminence closed
the event with a few words and a prayer.
