His Eminence Joins Community in Genocide Commemoration Events

 

His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada, joined the Armenian community of Quebec and Canada for commemorations in honour of the 92nd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

 

Following the inter-denominational memorial ceremony at Sourp Hagop Armenian Cathedral, His Eminence walked with more than 200 youth members to the Genocide memorial at park Marcelin-Wilson for a vigil and prayers in honour of all victims of genocides. This special vigil and march, was organized by the Montreal and Laval chapters of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Youth Organization of Canada, was held on the night of April 23, 2007.

 

On Genocide Remembrance Day, Prelate Hagopian first visited the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Ottawa, for a special Genocide memorial ceremony organized by the Armenian Embassy at the “Armenia Immortal” monument.

 

A requiem service was also held on Parliament Hill at the Centennial Flame, where His Eminence and Religious Leaders, Genocide survivors and Canadian political party leaders laid wreaths around the Flame in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

 

Archbishop Hagopian then proceeded to the Turkish Embassy with the community for the annual demonstration calling on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the current Turkish government. His Eminence closed the event with a few words and a prayer.
