The Right Honourable Prime Minister Stephen Harper extended gratitude to the Canadian Armenian National Assembly Representatives (CANAR) for their support of the current government’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide in response to a letter sent by His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada.

In His letter dated June 7, 2007, Prime Minister Harper noted:

“I truly appreciate the support of the Assembly for our government’s actions to recognize the Armenian Genocide and to advance human rights issues around the world.”

“Please know that Canada’s New Government remains firmly committed to promoting the principles of democracy and human rights. We also continue to look forward to strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between Armenia and Canada in the years ahead.”
