Vancouver Holds Special Easter Celebrations

Easter celebrations in Vancouver were marked with a special ceremony honouring the Jorgezian family and all those who contributed to the renovations of St Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church and the local Armenian community centre’s Lazarian hall on the afternoon of March 23, 2008.

The opening speech was delivered by Mr. Hagop Der Hagopian, who thanked all the people who assisted in the renovations of the church and centre, before inviting Vancouver’s church Pastor, Very Rev. Fr. Housig Mardirossian to the podium.

“The contributions of the Jorgezian family to the renovation of our church and centre only represent an iota of their benevolence. We all aware of their commitment to the Armenian Church, Armenian educational establishments, the Armenian cause and Armenia, but God only knows the extent of their assistance and generosity,” said Very Rev. Fr. Mardirossian.

On behalf of the St Gregory the Illuminator Church Board of Trustees, Very Rev. Fr. Mardirossian expressed appreciation “to all the generous benefactors of the community, whose contributions made these establishments a reality.”

Mr. Raffi Der Bedrossian spoke on behalf of His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada and the Prelacy’s Executive Council, and extended gratitude

to the Jorgezian family for their generosity. Mr. Der Bedrossian then bestowed an honorary “Hovan Mantagouni” medal to Mr. Mardig Jorgezian, for his commitment to the Armenian community and church throughout the years and read a congratulatory letter written by His Eminence Archbishop Hagopian.

During the special ceremony, on behalf of the Vancouver Armenian community centre, special gratitude was expressed to the site foreman, Mr. Dale Chatta, for his meticulous attention to detail during the community centre’s renovations. In turn, the Sidhu family were presented with an Honorary Armenian accolade, for their dedicated assistance to Mr. Jorgezian and all his projects.
