His Eminence Receives the Patriarchal Vicar of Canada’s Syrian Orthodox Church Archdiocese

His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate, received His Eminence Archbishop Mar Athanasius Elia Bahi, Patriarchal Vicar of the Archdiocese of Canada of the Syrian Orthodox Church at the Armenian Prelacy of Canada in the morning hours of Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

During their meeting, Archbishop Hagopian expressed the importance of interchurch cooperation, keeping the bonds of Christianity strong, as well as working and planning together, particularly with the events unfolding in Lebanon. They both expressed the hope for peace and reconciliation.

Archbishop Hagopian also presented the Armenian Prelacy’s mission and its churches to Archbishop Bahi, and took the opportunity to give Patriarchal Vicar Bahi a tour of the Armenian community centre.

His Eminence Archbishop Mar Athanasius Elia Bahi noted how He felt at home at the Prelacy and wished for continued collaboration “for the benefit of churches and Christian unity.”

Until His official appointment to his new post at the Archdiocese of Canada in February 2008, Mar Athanasius Elia Bahi was the personal secretary of the man who consecrated Him as a monk, Patriach Mar Ignatios Zakka Qadmoyo, accompanying Him across the globe during His many travels.
