Prelacy Holds Annual Deacons Seminar and celebrates Feast of the Cross

Under the Auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate, more than 95 deacons and church choir members participated in the Armenian Prelacy of Canada’s annual deacon’s seminar at Sourp Nishan Armenian Apostolic Church in Cambridge on September 12 and 13, 2008.

His Eminence opened the seminar with prayer, and was immediately followed by the seminar’s first lecture on the importance of Christian education, which was given by Rev. Fr. Karnig Koyounian. A meet and greet concluded the seminar’s first session.

The seminar’s second session started with Archbishop Hagopian, who presented a detailed history of the 50th anniversary of the Armenian Prelacy in North America, its achievements and future missions. Sourp Hagop Armenian Apostolic Church choir master, Hasmig Injejikian, followed with a lecture on “The art of liturgical hymns.”

The final lectures were given by Rev. Fr. Gomidas Panossian and Archpriest Hrair Nicolian, who presented “The Procession of the Cross” and “The Feasts of the Cross” respectively.

Archbishop Hagopian closed the seminar with a prayer and noted to the participants, “You are our church, without our Deacons and youth, our church would lose its richness.” Prelate Hagopian also expressed his gratitude to all those who attended and to Cambridge’s Ladies Guild and church pastor, Rev. Fr. Panossian, for hosting this year’s seminar.

Celebrations for the Feast of the Holy Cross were held that same night and on Sunday, Prelate Hagopian presided over Divine Liturgy with the participation of the seminar’s attendants, including the church choir members under Hasmig Injejikian’s baton.

Seminar attendants included Acolytes, Sub Deacons, Deacons and choir members from the Armenian Apostolic Churches of St Gregory the Illuminator in Vancouver, Sourp Hagop in Montreal, Sourp Kevork in Laval, St. Mary in Toronto, Sourp Nishan in Cambridge and St. Paul in St. Catharines.
