Archbishop Hagopian at Parliament for Joint Genocide Commemoration

His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada, joined the Canadian Armenian communities for a special reception on Parliament Hill commemorating the Armenian Genocide on the evening of April 14, 2010.

The joint commemoration for the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide brought together parliamentarians, senators, ambassadors, dignitaries, academics, clergymen from numerous denominations, as well as Armenians who represent different organizations from Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.

The ceremony was held in Parliament's prestigious Room 200 located in the West Block, where Archbishop Hagopian opened the ceremony with a prayer, before ceding the podium to representatives of Canada’s political parties.

Canadian Armenian actor, Arsinée Khanjian, spoke on behalf of the Canadian Armenian community, and Rabbi Dr. Steven Leonard Jacobs, a long time member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, was the guest speaker for the event.
