Archbishop Hagopian Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the ARS with Community Under the Auspices of His Eminence, Archbishop Khajag Hagopian, Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Canada, more than 500 people celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Relief Society at the Montreal Armenian Community Centre on the evening of May 1, 2010. Organized by Canada’s ARS Regional Executive and held under the patronage of Prof. Shake Der Melkonian-Minassian, the celebratory gala featured a cultural program, including musical and theatrical performances, as well as different speeches about the multi-faceted charity work the ARS has undertaken for the past century. His Eminence, Prelate Hagopian opened the evening with a prayer and took the podium to close the evening with a few words of praise for ARS, noting the indescribable and countless services its members have provided to communities across the world. As 2010 has been proclaimed by His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia, as the year of the woman, Archbishop Hagopian highlighted and emphasized the important role Armenian women have had in Armenian history, notably the ARS, which has always been there, in good times and bad, to serve and help its people. |
